The Freakeasy is bringing the Chicago underground up to State Street this Summer for Sundays On State, a five block long street festival downtown on State street organized by the The Chicago Loop Alliance.

Building one of the two main stages for the street festival, the Freakeasy Underground Stage and Art Zone will be positioned at State and Lake right next to the historic Chicago Theater.

Each of the four dates (July 24, August 7, August 21, September 4, 2022) will feature some of Chicago’s finest DJs including DJ Heather, Gene Hunt, Jesse De La Pena, Ron Carroll, Tee Mixwell, Iz and Diz, Jevon Jackson, Czboogie, Redux, Karl Almaria, Adrienne Sanchez and Freakeasy resident DJs, all on a beautiful perfectly tuned MEYER Soundsystem.

Alongside the music, The Freakeasy live artists, body painters, tribal dancers, flow arts performers and interactive art activation booths will grace the Freakeasy stage surroundings in front of The Chicago Theater, creating a whole underground grassroots art scene that embody what The Freakeasy and its’ Burning Man roots bring in a unique curatorial style.

Last year’s launch of Sundays On State was a huge success, bringing together hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans throughout the summer, celebrating our beautiful historic downtown. A unique setting, closing off State to all motorized vehicles for 4 city blocks, Sundays On State features multiple stages of art, music and dance, interactive creative activation zones and 200+ craft vendors. Entrance is free to the public. This year, the street festival will continue all the way down from Lake Street, South to Madison Street, increasing the footprint.

Though The Freakeasy has roots out at the Burning Man Arts Festival and the underground scene coast to coast, the collective is no stranger to curating Chicago civic events over the past decade, pulling off a 12 stage, 80 performer Halloween Party with Chicago’s Department Of Cultural Affairs at Cloud Gate in 2018, a Multi Media DJ Series show at Pritzker Pavillion-Millennium Park, The Bloomingdale/606 Trail “Sounds Of Solstice” festival, the Upside Down Halloween Parade in Washington Park, Chicago Loop Alliance’s ACTIVATE and several years producing art, music and performance at The North Halsted Street Halloween Parade.

Sundays On State happens over four Sundays this Summer 2022. The Freakeasy will custom curate each weekend.
