In a rare flash of good news for Chicago’s beleaguered nightclub scene, Sound-Bar has announced they are re-opening this Friday with a show by Detroit house and techno legend MK.

Sound-Bar was issued a Summary Closure notice following the shooting death of an employee in an alley near the club on March 7, 2019.

The quick turnaround is welcome, considering the fate of other clubs handed a Summary Closure notice, which can force a club to shut down for as long as six months.

In a statement calling the shooting an “unfortunate, isolated incident,” Sound-Bar pointed out that the shooting happened outside the venue and “had nothing to do with the night’s programming, nor any regular patrons of the club.” Sound-Bar says they’ve worked in accordance with police recommendations on a Nuisance Abatement Plan – typically one of the steps to lift a Summary Closure which outlines safety and security measures and procedures. There will also be increased police presence in the area during the weekends.

Sound-Bar will feature MKwith Prok & Fitch and Steve Gerard and Dustin Sheridan this Friday April 5; Christoph on Saturday and Kristian Nairn on Sunday.
