We’re late on this but we wanted to have a post up here in memory of Phil Gerus. The Russian producer (real name: Phil Mirzoian) was killed by a drunk driver — allegedly, a drunk police officer — in Batumi, Georgia in June.

According to a release by Private Pool Group, Gerus and his younger brother Ivan were “crossing the street at the crosswalk [when] they got hit by a car driven by a drunk police officer. The police officer is under trial now.” The case appears to be referenced in this article from netgazeti.ge.

The accident occurred on June 13 2023. Gerus was 35 years old.

Gerus passed away in the ambulance; his brother Ivan has undergone multiple operations to save his life.

Gerus released music on labels including Sonar Kollective, Emotional Especial and Tensnake’s True Romance, which released his Make Time EP. 5 Mag wrote at the time that Gerus had “an uncanny talent for isolating key elements of tracks and running a good riff way beyond the point of delirium.”

Gerus also remixed Tensnake’s “Rules” from his LA Noir remix album and played the Rhodes on Lay-Far’s 2018 War Is Over LP and collaborated again on “Novatorov Electric Blue,” the final track from Lay-Far’s True, Necessary, Kind LP released in June.
