A series of top-notch remixes of “Friends,” the final track from iconic UK group Bent’s 2020 album Up In The Air. Representing their first studio album in 14 years (the last was 2006’s Intercept!), Up In The Air captured everything that people loved about Bent, from a serious acumen for creating lush atmospheric mood pieces to a tongue-in-cheek approach that suggested that maybe sometimes there was more to do to a record than just nod to it.

Ashley Beedle captures that Bent spirit best of all, with lush strings wrapped around ray guns and big over-the-top sweeps in his “NSW Vocal Club Mix.” Crazy P finds a whole new song in an idle melody from the original, and Nail’s remix leads off the b-side with a kind of proto-club mix. Somethin’ Sanctified creates an atmosphere that’s both dubby and sunny. Which is maybe the best way to characterize the record: dubby and sunny. I am starting to believe that records like this are not just beneficial but perhaps even essential to a healthy emotional life.
