DJ Deeon Meets Wehbba for WE HAVE BASS

DJ Deeon gets a huge spotlight turn on WE HAVE BASS from Drumcode, with blown out vocals and drums that go off like a string of firecrackers.

DJ Deeon gets a huge spotlight turn here and it’s well-deserved. The Chicago ghetto house pioneer (and truly one of the handful of genuinely great people in this business) collaborates with Wehbba, following a “serendipitous hook up” in Brazil of all places.

There’s a kind of artificial lo-fi quality to “We Have Bass” that some prefer, with blown out vocals and drums that go off like a string of firecrackers. Pretty huge track from the sound of it, but aside from their collaboration there are also three other excellent techno tracks here. “Third Wave” is a steamroller of pumping sound; that it leads into a track that is also called “Steamroller” is maybe more of that “serendipity” at play. Driving techno and it’s straight fire. “Purge” closes the EP with a kind of digital bubblebath – beatless and I’d say “ambient” but you’d probably imagine the sound of windchimes and frogs. It’s achingly pretty, pure music for a tainted world.
