Googling “rich daddies,” I admit now, was probably a mistake. I’m resigned to having this follow me around in search profiles and dodgy ad suggestions for the rest of my days.

Worth it, though. “I Just Can’t Explain” is the incendiary lead track from the pseudonymous Rich Daddies, purportedly some Australian housemates with a record “made during one of the longest lockdowns in the world.” It’s tempting to suggest that maniacal vocal loop — “I jus’ can’t I jus’ can’t I jus’ can’t I jus can’t explain itttt” — reflects their stir-crazed confinement, a music producer’s equivalent of Jack Torrance hammering at his typewriter in the ballroom of the Overlook Hotel. Or its just a killer UK Garage loop, because it is. It’s lightning in a bottle.

The other three tracks are significantly less manic — insanely so, with “Get Close” laidback in the vein of dub and reggaeton.
