It’s been a minute since I’ve heard from Mr. Agore. Alex Agore was everywhere in the underground for a solid ten year span — a producer who created exquisite tracks evocative of the best of Jersey garage. They dropped on vinyl, digital, in collaborations, remixes… For a solid chunk of the ’10s Agore was probably among the most playlisted producers in deep house, and while I don’t have the numbers I don’t think that’s a controversial thing to say.

A few years ago, his once prolific release schedule dropped off — not rare in this game, but rare for someone so talented to go on hiatus at his peak. Or maybe he simply stopped releasing them: Alex Agore was one of those producers, like Phil Asher or Anthony Nicholson, that seemed to like making music more than talking about it. It turns out that for at least awhile he’s been appearing for weekly streams on Twitch. But with a couple of releases since the New Year, he’s made a welcome return to the record bins too.

“Polarity” is vibrant, a feast for DJs and dancers — in a word, it’s alive. Afro-Latin percussion backs a synth solo so pure and soulful it feels like the devil’s hand must be involved. It’s six and a half minutes and you’ll want this to go on forever.
