Garage City was founded four years after “Steve and myself travelled to New York City for the very first time as part of Norman Jay’s squad,” Bobby Laviniere from Bobby & Steve says. “On that trip we were totally blessed to have visited the legendary Paradise Garage club and hear the king, Larry Levan play.

We didn’t have a lot of knowledge about the Paradise Garage or Larry prior to entering that amazing venue, but what happened once inside just blew our minds! The club, music, vibe, people and Larry – it was just made for us! It was four years later when my twin brother Stevie took the idea and said, let’s start our very own Paradise Garage, bringing that NYC sound to London. Stevie came up with the name ‘Garage City’ and thus our baby was born in 1991, our very first house night. It was a collaboration with Kiss FM and together we made history.

Steve Laviniere is currently in neurological hospital care. After contracting COVID in March 2020, Steve was “placed in an induced coma and on a ventilator for 21 days; the result has left him with a very rare brain injury called Acute Haemorrhage Lukaenchaphelitas (AHLE, or Hurst Disease).

“There hasn’t been an official [Garage City] reunion,” Bobby says, “so we thought it would just be fitting to do it for Stevie and raise funds for his future care and the family home adaptations.”

Tickets for this part one (“of many more”) reunion are £25 from skiddle.com. If you are unable to attend but want to chip in, a GoFundMe campaign has been organized for donations.
