With this radical concept, Dodo Records is born. Mary Mundy is now Dr. Mary Mundy, and after locating her before releasing their edit of “Love Me Love Me,” Dr. Mundy revealed that her favorite track was “Love Is Gone,” released on the oft-bootlegged Laurie in a pressing that is nearly impossible to find. The Patchouli Brothers had a spin at that one too, and the results are dancefloor fire.

There’s a very different tone between the two edits. “Love Me Love Me” is the quintessential party jam — a record every DJ should have on hand for special, once-in-a-lifetime moments. That strum could go on forever and if you forget the practical limitations of vinyl you think it just might.

You can almost hear the ’70s receding beneath the tidal wave of the ’80s on the Patchouli Brothers’ edit of “Love Is Gone” — big, unfiltered chords, a jump-and-funk bassline and a chorus polished so bright it shines. I’ve seen labels start from nothing and take awhile to hit their stride but with “Love Me Love Me” and “Love Is Gone” the Patchouli Brothers are starting with a smash, a record the dancers will demand and all the DJs crave.
