Do you know El Coco? The Gaturs? If rare disco and funk tuned-up and turned out are what you like then The Makeup is what you need. The album of eight rare disco and funk gems from the early 1970s to the early 1980s launches on double 12″ vinyl from the tastemakers at Adeen on March 1, 2021.

Chez Damier and Camille picked through the classic tracks which were “retouched and edited” by Nico Lahs. Some of these are extraordinarily rare and impossible to find in any case, such as the original of The Gaturs’ “Gator Bait,” edited here by Nico:

Also of note here is the spotlight falling on the wildly underrated production team of Rinder & Lewis, known under a dozen aliases but best known as “El Coco” with 1978’s “Coco Kane”:

Despite two compilers, eight artists and one mixer, there’s an underlying coherence to the package — a spaced out and stoned vibe copuled with a hazy vision of brighter days.

The Makeup is out on March 1, 2021; listen to the full release below and pre-order the wax from Juno.
