Update: Prince’s publicist informs the Associated Press that Prince Rogers Nelson died today at the age of 57.

CNN confirms:

Prince Rogers Nelson, the artist known as Prince, who pioneered “the Minneapolis sound” and took on the music industry in his fight for creative freedom, has died, according to a family member reached by CNN. He was 57. The family member asked not to be identified.

Original story:

Media across the spectrum are reporting that a death investigation is underway at the Paisley Park estate, where pop superstar Prince lives and records.

Vaguely journalistic outfit TMZ is reporting that the death in question was Prince himself, dead at age 57.

We’re sitting here reloading and scrolling just like you are. We will probably fill this space with posts and memories or – hopefully – laughter over that time that we really believed that Prince was dead.

  1. …when the music industry throws around the term ‘artist’, very few of them could match the artistry of prince. not only did the man write his own music, he also played every instrument. that is the definition of a true artist. i will miss him and his music.
