There’s a new soccer team in town & it’s called the “Chicago House”

Chicago’s new soccer team will begin playing in August with a fly logo and a name honoring the city’s house music tradition.

Chicago House Athletic Club will begin competition in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) in 2021. The name was selected as part of a fan vote which squared off 68 finalists until the last were eliminated. “Chicago House” won by a 2-to-1 margin over “Point Chicago” in the final contest.

Brian Costin originally proposed the “Chicago House” moniker and said in a statement released by the team that “Chicago House music has always been about peace, love, and acceptance, and has influenced music culture all over the globe.”

“I am excited about how Chicago House music will contribute to the club culture and the gameday experience of Chicago House AC.”

House Music is Disco’s Revenge

Ironically, the team’s executive staff includes William “Night Train” Veeck, the grandson of legendary baseball owner Bill Veeck. The elder Veeck was owner of the Chicago White Sox on July 12, 1979 when the team held Disco Demolition Night, the notorious event which broke down into a riot.

“The irony certainly isn’t lost on me,” Veeck told 5 Mag. When asked if the adoption of the name “closed the circle” on Disco Demolition Night, Veeck said “There’s definitely a ‘full circle’ feeling to it. I don’t know if I’m the one that closes that circle or not, because my family has a complex history with blowing up records, but it was definitely an interesting moment I had with myself when beginning to build this team.”

The club incorporates the sound of Chicago House Music into its branding and (pandemic pending, of course) has begun looking into more ways to do so, with DJs potentially spinning pre-match, post-match or even a potential supporters DJ.

Team president and CEO Peter Wilt also announced plans to make the “Chicago House AC” a “true Athletic Club in the image of professional Athletic Clubs around the world” by rolling out affiliated teams in other sports, similar to European clubs like Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

The soccer team, coached by longtime Chicago Fire star CJ Brown, will begin play in August at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. Season ticket info is available here.
